why your bar is becoming more expensive
Because we want to continue paying cocoa farmers the price for a living income, we have to increase the price of our bars slightly.
You know, Tony's has a mission: together, making 100% slave-free the norm in chocolate. We do this by paying farmers a higher price for their traceable cocoa beans in the long term. We want to set a good example and show that making an impact and commercial success go together very well. But hey... you also know and have probably experienced it yourself: raw materials and products have become more expensive due to the current situation in the world.
Because we want to continue paying cocoa farmers the price for a living income and in order to continue making chocolate as part of our mission, we also have to increase the price of our bars slightly.
We explain in detail, because as you know, our bars have nothing to hide.
chunky chocolate bars, chock full of traceable beans
Just to be clear... this is not shrinkflation where we to talk about. Nope, our bars remain chunky, 180 grams and chock full of traceable beans, for which farmers continue to receive a fair price. That will not change at all.
ingredients and transport are becoming more expensive
What has changed is that the ingredients and transport of our bars have become more expensive. The market price of our ingredients has increased by 13% compared to last year. For example, milk powder for our milk bars has increased in price by an average of 56%, a kilo of sugar has become 22 cents more expensive and the costs of transporting all this have also increased by an average of 7%.
Below are the most important risers:
- Milk powder costs €5.00 on May 1, 2022, while it cost €3.20 on May 1, 2021.
- Cardboard costs €1.25 on May 1, 2022, while it still cost €0.72 on May 1, 2021.
- Sugar costs €0.72 on May 1, 2022, while it cost €0.50 on May 1, 2021
- Costs for our crazy ingredients, such as raspberries and almonds, have increased by 10% on average.
(So hey.. that's quite a lot!)
farmers continue to pay a fair price
We have looked at it carefully and have come up with came to the conclusion that we cannot fully absorb this 13% cost increase. That could jeopardize the achievement of our mission in the long term. And of course we don't want that. That is why the sales price of our 180 gram bars will be €3.29 as of June 1, 2022 (in our webshop).
With this new sales price we can continue to pay farmers a fair price, with which they can earn a living income. At the same time, we keep the balance of costs and income healthy in this way. (After all, we remain a company..)
Of course we don't know what the world will look like in six months' time. Therefore, we cannot rule out that raw material prices will rise further. We cannot yet say anything about the impact this will have on the sales price. But... one thing is certain: we will continue to pay fair prices to cocoa farmers and stay on course to achieve our mission.
You participate with every bite or bar you share! Because only together can we make all chocolate 100% slave-free.
