Tony's is free on July 1 (Keti Koti)
On July 1 we commemorate the abolition of slavery in 1863 in Suriname and the former Netherlands Antilles and celebrate freedom, also known as Keti Koti (or Dia di Abolishon). The consequences of the colonial past are still palpable in the present. It is the cause of current inequality in the world, such as the unevenly distributed cocoa chain. But, after more than 150 years, July 1 is still not a national commemoration and holiday in the Netherlands, on which we are free and reflect on this. By taking action together, we can change this.

Tony's Chocolonely is an impact company that wants to make all chocolate 100% slave-free. Transatlantic slavery and modern slavery or exploitation may not be the same, but current inequality in the world does stem from our colonial past, such as the unequally distributed cocoa chain and institutional racism.
Mmake July 1 a national day of remembrance
Because we do not want to wait for politics, we made July 1 a day off 4 years ago for all Tonys to reflect on the past and read up on ourselves. And since then we have been campaigning to create awareness and make July 1 a nationally recognized holiday. More and more companies are following our example. More than 300 companies are now participating with us!
