Tony's (un)honest countdown calendar
Sometimes you're lucky, but sometimes uh... not
Hey chocofan,
Uhhmm.. did you notice anything about your countdown calendar? Normally there is a chocolate behind every door... Right? Well, not quite. But we have a very good reason for that.
Our bars are unfairly distributed, because the chocolate industry is also unfairly distributed. Large chocolate companies make a lot of profit because they do not pay cocoa farmers a fair price for their cocoa. The result? Many farmers live in poverty. As a result, some farmers see no other option than to use illegal labor to grow their cocoa. Simply because they cannot afford anything else.
Currently, 1.56 million children work illegally and there are at least 30,000 cases of modern slavery on cocoa farms in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. Child labor and modern slavery just because we want to enjoy a piece of chocolate? Not okay!
Tony's Chocolonely exists to change this. But hey... we can't do it alone. Join us and share our chocolate and our story during the holidays. Because only together can we make all chocolate 100% slave-free.
Chocolate greetings,
Team Tony's
