For the Sinterklaas party. Against slavery.
Chocolate and the Sinterklaas celebration belong together. The idea is to make you happy and not argue about it.
Chocolate and the Sinterklaas celebration belong together. Just like Sint and Piet. The idea is to make you happy and not argue about it. Nobody wants slavery in their chocolate. And no one wants slavery in their Sinterklaas celebration. Sounds so logical. But that doesn't happen automatically. That requires change. At Tony's we have made this our job. We believe that changes in the chocolate industry are happening too slowly. And we also think that the Piet discussion goes on far too long. Hop, hop, hop, galloping horse! At Tony's Chocolonely we are for the Sinterklaas celebration and against slavery. Read our 'official statement' here (of course in consultation with Santa):
Sinterklaas, that fine man, loves the Netherlands dearly.
He loves it here with us. So warm, hospitable and tolerant.
Slavery and racism, no, that is not allowed in this country.
And yet we have the discussion about Piet every year.
You are FOR or you are AGAINST, and we will keep going,
as far as Santa is concerned, this story is really taking too long.
Everyone wants the same thing, right? A great children's party every year?
Just listen to the other person. Because do we understand each other?
Proponents of Zwarte Piet are not all racist,
But they do not want their child to miss out on that beautiful tradition.
Opponents are often given a hard time,
But they want that everyone can belong.
Sint and Piet are childhood friends and best friends,
Piet is not a servant with red lips, a gold earring or frizzy hair.
Is this a country without racism, where skin color does not matter?
Then Piet has soot smears because he has to climb through the chimney.
Dear people (for or against) take each other as you are,
Give each other a little space, take it from Santa, you get used to it.
Celebrate exuberantly with all of us what is possible in our country and may,
And make December 5th another wonderful day together.
Tony's Chocolonely
Crazy about chocolate, serious about people.
And...are you really unable to figure it out, are you getting angry or sad? Come on, that's not the intention. Our Pietwijzer will give you a helping hand and show that it is not all that difficult:
