seriously good news: our bar is becoming (slightly) more expensive

Uhhh, good news? What do you mean, good news? We will explain that.

Uhhh, good news? What do you mean, good news? We're going to explain that. So read on and you will know exactly how it works. Our bar is becoming more expensive for two important reasons:

1. Higher cocoa butter price
The price of cocoa butter is currently high. The supply of cocoa butter is limited due to a disappointing harvest and the failure of a major cocoa butter processor. As a result, the price has risen. Sometimes things go wrong..

2. Traceable cocoa butter
And sometimes things don't go so well... As you know (or didn't know yet, but now you do...) our cocoa butter is now also traceable. And we are proud of that! Traceable cocoa butter (with known beans) has been on our wish list for quite some time, but that was still difficult... Last summer, Barry Callebaut, the largest chocolate maker in the world, agreed to make a major adjustment and investment in his chocolate factory to process our cocoa butter in a traceable manner. For example, at Barry Callebaut a special tank has been installed for Tony's Chocolonely's own cocoa butter and separate pipes have been installed to make chocolate from it. So.. tadaaaah, from now on all cocoa beans (for the cocoa mass and cocoa butter) in all your favorite Tony's Chocolonely bars are purchased directly from our partner cooperatives in Ghana and Ivory Coast. That makes us happy. And the farmers too.

An extra premium for the farmer
We pay a higher price for the well-known Tony's cocoa beans. That's our Tony's bounty. Next year, this premium, including the Fairtrade premium, will be about 20% more than the normal price that a farmer receives for his cocoa. Paying a higher price is one of our five cooperation principles. These cooperative principles allow farmers to earn a living income, putting an end to slavery and child labor.

So seriously good news…
Only together can we make chocolate 100% slave-free. That is why we share this price increase fairly. With you. Our bars will become more expensive from today, December 1. How much more expensive? Well, 10 cents for our 180 gram bars and 5 cents for our small 50 gram bars. A slightly more expensive bar, but it tastes even better because you know what it's like.

Our consumer recommended prices have been adjusted as of December 1, ie today. We have implemented these prices in our webshop and Tony's Store.
