the bitter reality on this Day Against Child Labour

The bitter reality on this International Day Against Child Labor? Read it here.

de bittere realiteit op deze Dag tegen Kinderarbeid

Do you know how many children in the Netherlands attend primary school? Almost exactly the same number of children are involved in child labour in cocoa communities in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire – around 1.5 million children.

Today is the International Day Against Child Labour.

And a staggering 95% of those 1.5 million children in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire do hazardous work*, such as working with machetes, pesticides or carrying cocoa sacks. The bitter reality behind much chocolate...

Imagine: children in the Netherlands hauling cocoa instead of pencils, books and lunchboxes. Nobody would accept that, so nobody should accept this either. Child labour is a blatant violation of human rights and local laws.

Easier said than done: “those kids should just go to school.”

Because unfortunately, it's not that simple. For decades, millions of cocoa farmers have been underpaid for their cocoa, leaving them in poverty and with no choice but to have their children work on the farm.

Tony's exists to change that. Together with you! Bar by bar, bite by bite.

Until cocoa farmers earn a living income and their children can play, learn and dream BIG.

Will you join in?!

 yes, tell me more
